On Sunday, April 19, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., Cinema Art Bethesda will present the Israeli, German, French film, The Lemon Tree (Etz Limon). The film is 106 minutes long and in Arabic, Hebrew and English with English subtitles.
Salma, a Palestinian widow who lives on the border between Israel and the West Bank, stands up to her new neighbor, the Israeli Defense Minister when he moves into his new house opposite her lemon grove.
Israeli security forces declare Salma’s trees a threat and order them uprooted. With her young Palestinian lawyer, Salma goes all the way to the Israeli Supreme Court to try to save her trees.
This raises the interest of Mira Navon, the Defense Minister’s wife, who is trapped in her new home and unhappy life. The women develop a bond while Salma’s journey leads her into the complex, dark, and sometimes funny struggle in the Middle East.
